Having just finished David Attenborough's "A Life on our Planet" (available on Netflix), my eyes have been opened, allowing me to perceive the situation of Climate Change in a completely alternative manner. As days have passed by, i have taken my reservation upon our "ball of mass" completely for granted. I have ripped from the earths resources without ever really returning the favour, however i never truly understood this, until my perception of the situation was broadened.

From the most tropical of landscapes, to the most beautiful of creatures, our daily selfish cravings are causing nothing but destruction towards these delicate habitats. The paper we write upon is derived from the homes of millions of living beings. While the oceans, filled with the most beautiful of wildlife, is suffocated through our means of waste. I have been motivated to list three actions to be undertook on a daily basis, as a form of returning my appreciation to the Earth itself. I hope this post may motivate you to do the same, as one small step from every individual, is one large step for all of humanity.

TRAVEL

A day has yet to be personally experienced without the influence of some means of travel. These range from taking the car for a spin down to the shop, or taking the bus up to the city, however, too many are guilty of unnecessarily using fuel powered transport due to the simple fact that we are often too lazy. According to thecarconnection.com, Americans spend approximately 316 hours driving a year.So i'm challenging myself to walk wherever seems possible. I understand it's not the craziest of challenges possible, but i believe habits are created through consistent pickering at the subject. Our use of fast transport also often blinds us from more of the gifts that the earth has to offer; A breathe of fresh air, a smell of nature and an overall appreciation for everything surrounding us. It's always important to focus on the small things.

FOOD WASTAGE

One aspect of life that i believe we all contribute hugely towards, is our intake of food. Now, don't get me wrong, i love food just as much as the next person, but as the saying goes "too much of anything is bad". Our problem is not about the food we are consuming, but rather the food that we are not. According to Foodwastecharter, the Irish waste over one million tonnes of food, which is the equivalent of about ten thousand blue whales. My self set challenge is to cook less food from the beginning. Not only is this a benefit for the world, but also for my figure #solongsantaponsa.

RECYCLING

Above is a video briefly explaining the process of what occurs to our items after we have sent them to be recycled. However, our individual duty to recycle is one with very little drawbacks. The idea of something old being transformed into something new is a process that is rarely appreciated, especially to the extend that it contributes. According to NatGeo, 91% of plastic is not recycled every year! So my challenge is to, rather than throw out everything that i no longer see use for, i'll take examinations into prospect and observe a future which lies behind each item, to see if it can somehow influence the lives of others somewhere in the future.

Will you coward out to the thought of change, or stand up alongside me, for your right to a future?
